Dr Smith has been a Senior Lecturer in Architecture at Liverpool John Moores University for almost ten years. He teaches across both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, specializing in sustainability and architectural design. He has run design and research projects dealing specifically with issues around contemporary library design and the role of the physical book in an increasingly digitised society; these projects have been specifically set to challenge preconceptions over library architecture. As a qualified architect Dr Smith has also been involved with the design and realisation of numerous public buildings. He has also worked as a consultant on a range of progressive buildings, working collaboratively with architectural practices. This work has included winning and shortlisted projects in national and international design competitions.
